The Torkas: The Path Between What Was and What Comes Next

They were not called Precursors because they came first. They were called Precursors because they were always there… before anything else was understood.
And when they were gone…
they left something behind.
Not knowledge.
Not instruction.
A path.
Across the wilderness stand the Torkas.
Ancient.Silent.Misunderstood.
Most see ruins.
Stone.
Remnants of something lost.
But the Torkas were never meant to be understood by most.
They were meant to be kept.
Those Who Still Believe
The world has moved on.
It replaced belief with explanation. Replaced meaning with certainty.
But not everyone followed.
There are those who still believe the world must remain in balance.
Who understands that not everything ends when it disappears from sight.
They are called Arcadians.
They do not rule.
They do not seek control.
They keep what others have forgotten.
What Remains After Death
When a life ends…
something does not.
It does not belong to the body.
It does not remain in the world as it was.
But it lingers.
Not meant to stay.
Not able to leave.
Unless it is guided.
The Mark
Among the Arcadians, there are a few who are different.
They are not chosen.
They are not trained to become what they are.
They are born with it.
A circular mark, carried on their back.
It is not decoration.
It is not symbolic.
It is a sign of something older than the world understands.
The mark of the Precursors.
It appears rarely.
Without warning.
Without a pattern that anyone has been able to fully explain.
But when it appears…
It is recognized.
Because only those who bear it can do what must be done.
The Shamans
Those born with the mark are called Shamans.
They are the only ones who can open a Torka.
The only ones who can stand within its threshold without being lost.
Because the Torka does not respond to force.
It does not respond to tools.
It responds to something within them.
Something that aligns with what the Precursors left behind.
The Passage
When a Torka opens, it does not reveal another place.
It reveals a crossing.
A space between realities.
Unstable.Directionless.Unforgiving.
The Shaman does not enter for themselves.
They enter carrying what cannot walk on its own.
They guide it.
Through something that does not behave like distance.Through something that does not follow time.
Toward a new existence.
Not imagined.
Not hoped for.
Reached.
Balance
This is not a ritual for tradition’s sake.
This is what keeps the world from breaking.
Because without the passage…
Things remain where they should not.
And what remains…
was never meant to stay.
What Was Left Behind
The Precursors did not explain the Torkas.
They did not say who would use them.
And yet…
They left behind those who could.
Marked.
The Question That Remains
Was the mark a gift?
Or a responsibility placed on those who had no choice in carrying it?
Step Into the World
Some are chosen.
Some are trained.
And some…
We are born already connected to something we do not yet understand.
